Dear in the headlights,
From Wyoming to Oregon to New Hampshire to Hip Hop, Abstrakt is half poet, half nomad, and half full. Abstrakt fell in love with hip hop at the age of 10 and began writing his own rhymes that very same year. It didn’t take long for an intrigue in rap to become a passion for the art of writing. He developed his craft throughout high school, coming into his own and building confidence with each Coffee House, Open Mic, and Battle of the Bands he performed at. Always looking to challenge himself creatively, Abstrakt’s high school opus was a rap he wrote and performed incorporating many of the names of his senior classmates.
He then took his art from small-town New Hampshire to a bigger stage when he attended Emerson College in Boston. There he majored in Audio Production as a way to expand his musical possibilities. Abstrakt then met Reality, a like-minded rapper and producer, and the two collaborated on an album before joining a larger group called Subconscious Collective. SubCo combined the smooth, jazzy beats of Johnny Red and Fetch with the hard-hitting, complex lyrics of Abstrakt, Reality, and Earrelevant. They performed around Boston, headlining at a music show in Chinatown, and The Bird Head Bash in South Boston. They were also the only hip hop act to play at a Battle of the Bands held at The Paradise. Sadly, though, the group ended their run right as their name was reaching the ears of many, and the members went their separate directions. Abstrakt went write.
Today, with feather in hand, Abstrakt tries to bring flight to words. He currently can be found lost in his mind, while conceiving, producing, and writing a solo album. His meticulous writing process is an attempt to create something completely fresh, the likes of which have never been heard before. He takes pleasure in spinning words in new and unpredictable ways and hopes that you all take pleasure in hearing, reading, or tasting what is spun.
